Chattanooga Knit Night

In the midst of all the craziness that has been going on in my life lately, I've had some new friends to emerge. And they are just what I have needed. Who better to have a weekly counseling session with than my local knitters. They are a fabulous group of women and I am so grateful to have met them.

I'm looking forward to our time together tonight and hope that you find a similar group to sit and knit with in your area. When I really get myself organized and up-to-date, I'll link their blogs so you can meet them to.

HAPPY KNITTING! Tonight I finish I my socks!!! yeah! (If I don't talk too much that is :) )

Knitting the Blues Away

First of all, thank you to all of you that have sent encouraging words regarding the job. I am still employed with my company but I'm trying to find a new job with the quickness. I'll be submitting on-line applications tonight for at least four jobs I've seen so far. My goal is to actively look in town before branching out to jobs that may require me to move.

So, to keep the stress down (as usual), I have been knitting. The local LYS had a 75% off sale on the clearance bins so I went and bought some yarn for a baby blanket and some yarn that looks like it might make a nice tank.

I cast on for the baby blanket immediately and finished it up in no time. I used a simple diagonal patten and I think it turned out quite lovely. It's 100% acrylic so it can be abused and washed but still feel quite lovely. Can you believe it on cost $9.06 pre-tax. Regular price would have been $36.25 pre-tax.

I also finished a really long scarf that I've been working on. It's the My So Called Scarf pattern that I found though Ravelry and it knits up quickly but make a mistake and you will pay dearly. I've still got to weave in the ends. I think I'm also going to line the back of it because this thing rolls like crazy. It is beautiful though and the yarn makes it extra special. But the biggest and best achievement of all is my sock!! This is my first adult sock. I did a pair for my nephew when he was a few months old but they were different sizes and not so good. So I wasn't too enthused going into the adult socks, but finally I GOT IT! I knit this toe up using the magic cast on and magic loop knitting. It took about a week of working off and on and that's mainly because I did make a few mistakes and need to tink a bit. But now that I've got it, the next one should go super fast. I'm going to cast on for it tomorrow. It's 100% Merino wool and it feels fantastic! I can't believe how warm they feel compared to the regular store bought socks that I have. Oh the joy of hand knit socks!

DO I HAVE A JOB OR NOT?

The past couple of weeks have been tough. Hardly any knitting has been done. A couple of weeeks ago, word started to surface that the company was having financial trouble. All of a sudden pleople out of our main ofice were being fired or 'let go' (as they want you to call it so they don't feel so bad about giving employees no notice that they would be without a job in two days).

Not knowing my own fate, I have been taking all of my files and notebooks of training and work related information and scanning them into PDF files. When it's my time, I would rather walk out with a memory stick rather than 4 boxes of paper (what I came with).

I was assured by the head of our department that we all were safe but I kept scanning. I've been needing to do this anyway. Another rumor surfaced that more cuts would be made but department heads would strive to keep the 'best and brightest' and get rid of the 'dead weight'!

Again on Friday I was assured my department was safe. When I got a call at 3 pm Friday from a friend saying she had been fired (sorry 'let go'), I knew my time was coming. She WAS one of their best and brightest. I packed up half the things in my office, scanned more files and resolved in my head that I wouldn't have my job much longer.

To shorten this saga just a bit, this week I was fired then rehired (the intent was not to get rid of me to begin with). But then I was told that if I wanted to keep my job I needed to relocate and that meant someone else would loose their job. I turned down the proposition. I'm not relocating for a financially unstable company.

So knowing I would have no job after turning this down, I started to prepare to turn my projects over. And actually there is no one to turn them over to. Which is why I guess I was told to just keep working until further notice.

Hence the question, DO I HAVE A JOB OR NOT? All I know is the resume is hot off the presses and will be distributed soon.
